It is nice to see some girls doing with they really want to do, instead of having to stick to their culture. And that families are starting to let them enjoy themselves.
People who go to church and people who don't sometimes do not seen eye to eye on some things as they may not understand certain things about certain religions and that can be a bad source for some people as it can create Hell for many people's friends and family. First castro talks about the rising population in poor countries then he explains the major health problems. Finally, castro talks about finding a way to slow down population growth and spread of disease in the poor countries. comparison The two cultures that are encountered are very different. The girl comes from a very strict religious background. Her ancestors have taught them that getting in the water is bad and dangerous. When she walks down to the beach and meets the surfer he introduces her into a whole new culture. He encourages her to follow her dreams and try surfing. These two cultural conflicts show that other cultures aren't bad just because they are different, the girl would have never found her love for surfing if she did not meet the tourist that was surfing.
SUMMARY In the article entitled, “California colleges adopt new rule on diversity; a religious group objects,” Newsela acknowledges the different clubs on campus and their issues. Next, Newsela explains that there is a conflict between clubs and who is able to lead them. The author presents that some students think it is wrong for a non- Christian to lead a Christian club. Then, they state that the school cannot discriminate against certain cultures, so they can’t do anything about it. In conclusion, they say that there are problems to this day, but culture cannot make a difference to whether you’re a leader or not.
COMPARISON At Cal State University, there is an issue involving different cultures and religions leading different clubs. One side believes that people of the Christian Faith should be the only ones allowed to run a Christian Club. They think that it only makes sense for someone of that faith to run the club. However, this leads to disagreements. People think it is not fair and they think of it as discrimination. They believe that you shouldn’t be banned from leading a club just based on their culture. This feud has taken place for years, but there still is not an official “rule” to whether or not they can lead the club.
I think that your article is an interesting topic with a valid controversy. I understand how it would be difficult to decide who gets to lead a club or not.

For example, if someone is on a call while trying to board a bus, the driver will not let them on because it could disturb others. Furthermore, people are not allowed to use their phones will at a restaurant or a movie theater. However, mobile phone usage in places such as Europe, Africa, and India is very different. In Spain and Italy, mobile phones are used everywhere such as in restaurants, during business meetings, conferences, and sometimes concerts. The people don’t have a problem with sharing their personal lives on the streets. First, the staff at Newsela acknowledges that the governor wanted to keep the law, but make a few changes to it.The writers show that the people are very passionate about their rights. Then, they define that the governor doesn’t know why they want to change the whole law. Finally, they show how the governor who is going against the current one is saying that he will take away the law and redo the whole thing.
I think that their government should repeal the law because the people aren’t happy with it. Their citizens should be able to use whichever restroom that they feel the most comfortable using. Plus since the court decided not to let them sue in court because of discrimination from their employers, it will be hard for the people to have a say in their government and in some cases, in their lives.
The people are against the government the touchy issue of a law about transgenders. The government wants to change a part of a law. The people want the whole law gone. The citizens have protested against this. The current governor doesn’t see what the big deal is about getting rid of the whole law versus just changing it. The government asked to court the change where it says that they can’t sue against discriminatory actions at their place of business. Citizens haven’t been able to sue when they are being harassed at work, whether it be from their race, sexual preference or gender preference. The people are not very happy with their court system or their government. The government wants them to use the restroom specific to the gender they were born with. Transgenders don’t feel comfortable with using the restroom that they had tried to get away from with changing their genders. There have been many protests that have lead to violence because the government doesn’t feel like changing the whole law. People want to feel comfortable with being outside and in their workplace. They don’t want to be picked on or made fun of in their place of work. In order to get the most amount of quality work done, they need to be at their highest comfort level as can be so that they are relaxed and can focus on what they are supposed to get done. It would be a bit odd if you have changed to a female and are being forced to use the male’s bathroom. Feeling out of place is hard enough without all the stares you would get for the other people in there with you. It can be very stressful to feel out of place; feeling left out and being picked on can be very taxing to the mind and eventually, the body. People don’t always trust easily. It is hard for people to trust people when they have already been stabbed in the back. In addition, Falush acknowledges how people are criticizing Blackman for her opinions about what children should be reading. The author identifies how Blackman has written some very dark, political books. At the same time, Blackman is encouraging students and children to write and draw book including people from other races. Finally, the topic of whether children’s books should be more culturally diverse is still an issue in England.
Laureate Blackman opposes the general English public on whether children’s books should be more culturally diverse. Laureate Blackman believes that children’s books need to talk about more truths of society. Blackman thinks that people should write about people with ethnic minority. When she was first in the business of writing books, she was told that children didn’t want to read books where other ethnicities are the main characters. Children need to be exposed to more cultures. Children’s books include many different types of animals but only include one ethnicity(Caucasian). Children will never know about the outside world. Children’s books don’t need to show other ethnicities. Children don’t like reading books with other ethnicities. There are almost zero books in England published without a white person in them. Nobody really cares about the other ethnicities in literature. It doesn’t really matter what ethnicites are in books as long as people are buying them. Laureate Blackman is fighting for more books to be published with more ethnicites included but people and publishers are hesitant. In my opinion, I think children’s books in England should include other ethnicities.

In the article entitled “Looking Another Culture in the Eye,” Erin Meyer explains how different cultures have differences that determine how people respond. To begin, Meyer tells a story of how she gave a talk to managers in Tokyo and asked if they had any questions at the end. She describes how none of them responded, so her colleague then showed her that she had to look each person in the eye to ask for questions. Meyer learned that because she was in a different culture, she had to act a little differently to interact. In addition, Meyer learned to lead other job meetings and interviews differently and to be flexible when leading a multicultural team. Before Erin Meyer visited Tokyo and led a meeting there, she believed that all cultures generally interacted the same way. She thought that her gestures and ways of collaborating were known worldwide. So when she led the business meeting in Tokyo, she was surprised to find that her gestures and the way she asked questions was different and misunderstood. Her eyes were opened to other ways of interaction. In the article entitled “Two sides to proposal to expand protected U.S. shipwreck area” written by McClatchy Washington Bureau, adapted by Newsela staff, investigates what affects inspecting an old sunken ship would have. There are two sides to this argument, the personal and the moral. Personally, they want to be able to use all of the remaining ocean. On the other hand, morally, many people are disagreeing that it wouldn’t be right to examine the ship that was the burial ground for many people. The NOAA is trying their best to protect the sunken ship and a lot of other ships around that area.
Comparison
There was a shipwreck off the coast of North Carolina and that particular spot is a burial ground for sunken ships. This particular ship has brought up a lot of conraversity. Many people in the NOAA believe that the area of sunken ships should be expanded so all can be protected. They believe that the ships need to be protected and their needs to be a lot more regulation around that water so the mourning families can find some peace. On the other hand, the common people don’t want any more regulations of the water. They want to be able to go out on the water and enjoy themselves. As they see it, there is already a large portion of their ocean taken out of their control, and they want to be able to use what is left. No matter what happens with this situation, one side will not be happy.

They have reasons why they think this. The reasons are when people are different, they work harder to agree. Also it leads to more information about diversity. Finally, when groups are diverse, they tend to share more.
Opinion: i think that diversity in schools is a good thing. I dont see why people would not want to learn about other people and other cultures. I think learning about people and where they come from is very intesting. Everyone is different and everyone has a story. Diversity makes people more knowledgable about people around them
The article “Artist removes works from museum to protect danish law” described how a famous artist named Ai Weiwei removed his artwork from a museum. He did this because his country (Denmark) had just passed new laws taking away land and food from immigrants coming into the county. He thought immigrants should have somewhere to stay and something to eat. He was making a statement saying how he doesn’t support these new laws.
I agree with Ai Weiwei on Denmark’s new laws. I think it is unfair to the immigrants coming into the country. The immigrants are leaving Africa and the middle east so they need somewhere to stay and the new laws are preventing this from happening.
Very true. They should be more forgiving to the people that are just trying to stay safe. Also the immigrants probably don't have much money so they need all the hand outs they can get.

This article explains that when two people are different ,interdependent and independent, tend to have conflict with one another. People who of a different personality than you tend to have differing views tend to disagree on today’s problems, and this causes tension. Once you figure out what kind of person you are you can more efficiently avoid problems with other people.
Comparison: When two people have different views such as people with an independent view, which are people who want desperation and control, and someone who has an interdependent view ,which wants connection and cooperation, can lead people to have disputes on everyday things such as race or gender.

In the short online article, “Bangladeshi surfer girls ride battered boards and break ancient barriers” by the Newsela staff explores a new ocean experience for young girls. Bangladesh has 160 million Muslims and tradition is very strongly followed. The Newsela staff investigate how one girl wanted to try to surf and now other girls have followed. This simple event has changed their lives. Therefore, now the girls can have a bit of freedom in their very strict lives. The controversy in this article, is the families of the girls want them to stick to culture, even if they don’t want to. Some of the girls were even harassed on the street. These girls are rebelling and now their families are starting to learn more and respect their new decisions. Comparison The girls are suppose to strictly follow their family's culture. These girls defied that,they were frowned upon at first, but keep surfing and not doing what their cultural insisted. Good thing they did, because they encouraged other girls to surf too. In the article it states that the other members of their towns got mad and wished they would follow culture.
I agree that children's books should have more cultural diversity. The article ”Wheaton festival celebrates diversity” by the Chicago Tribune. The Wheaton world tour is an annual event to celebrate diversity in the community. Diversity is celebrated through authentic music. People who attended the festival say that the festival is great for the kids and that it is a great way to be exposed to other cultures. About 1,750 people showed up to the festival and there is without a doubt another festival to be held next year.
Despite the excitement and positive reviews of the festival, some naysayers believe that the festival is bad for the community. Protesters can be seen saying that the festival is responsible for the destruction of the communities original culture. This is a huge point of controversy within Chicago’s community.
Jeremy lin has been fouled hard in many basketball games and many times the fowler hasn't been called on it. Jeremy lin is an asian player playing in a American league. There have been youtube videos post on this and the refs don't seem to blink an eye.
The cultural difference is an asian player playing in a american league with mostly black and white players. Some fans believe the Nba is bullying him. Lin spoke about this and he believes that the nba needs to do there part about school bullying.
In the article “US Women Won Soccer’s World Cup; They Want to be Paid as Much as Men” written by Newsela Staff they explain how the US women's soccer team wants to equal the rules for the game of soccer. They tell us everything that is wrong with the sport that men and woman play and shared how they would like it fixed. They shared that the pay is unequal even when the women’s team has clearly made double the accomplishments as the men's team.The women also get stuck with the artificial grass which is dangerous and has causes women to cycle their games. Meanwhile the men's team gets the fresh green grass which is perfect for soccer. Clearly there are problems with men’s and women’s soccer that need to be solved. I think that the women have every right to have what the men have, especially if all women want the same things. The men have many advantages even if they don’t have the skills and wins. The women’s team has won multiple worlds championship and are nationally popular which i think given them the right to have access to the best they can get.
In the article “Nifty Space Idea: Blow up room” they talk about adding on an extra room on a space shuttle. International space station is running out of room. Scientists have found a way to create more room for the space shuttle. The room is really small, it's like the size of a small bedroom. The room helps humans take more trips to space, it also can be used to make bigger buildings on other planets. The room will travel to space on a rocket Friday afternoon. It will be in space for 2 years. Having a float able room in space not only will help astronauts but it will create more room and cut down time and costs. This technology is just the start for moving to different planets, just imagine a blow up building on mars.
In the article "Principal puts school election on hold and gets a lesson in democracy" they talk about the elections in their school. The schools population consisted of over half Latino and Mexican, about 9% African American, the rest were white. The principle delayed the final results because he said the people that had the most votes didn't represent the diversity in the school. The principle said "African-Americans and Latinos were underrepresented among the students who became president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and representatives for the three grades." Most parents stand behind the principle saying that it is good to have diversity among the school government. The Principle wanted to ensure that all groups throughout the school would have a representative.
I think it's interesting and respectful of how the principle put the election on hold because races were under-represented even though it's school and isn't majorly important but still thoughtful.
The article “opinion:diversity produces better results” adapted by newsela by Scientific American, it explains how cultural diversity can have ups and downs. It explained that people placed in rooms with people of other cultures usually feel uncomfortable and make them distracted during work. He also explains that it can cause people to work harder because people of the same race think that they have a common ground and that they will automatically agree with each other, this means that people of different races will work harder to find a common ground.

The upside of cultural diversity is that people will work harder together and that hopefully we as a society can finally learn to live together rather than just trying to find everything that could possibly have a racist side to it. The other thing that is good about cultural diversity is that people will share more information with each other. The downside of cultural diversity is that it can make people feel uncomfortable around each other and can cause people of the same race to pack into groups, which would defeat the purpose of having cultural diversity at all.

Summary: In the article entitled “Ban the Siesta? Spanish government considers ending national tradition” by Stephen Burgen explores how the U.S.A is banning Siestas. First, Burgen explains how Spainards are getting their 2 hour break banned called a siesta even though many of them don’t make use of it in the U.S. The author, acknowledges how in Spain they have a work day split in 2 parts, from 8 to 2 and from 4:30 to 8. Finally, he shows that because they split they day parents need to make 4 trips to pick up their kids and need childcare because there is a 3 hour gap between the work and school end time. All in all, Burgen explored how Spainards take a siesta but don’t need it anymore becuase they are working in offices instead of out in the fields and they uesd it to avoid they hottest part of the day.
Sides: The Spanish government has started to outlaw Siestas, a Spanish tradition that involves taking a break from work in the middle of the day. Siestas for a short period of time can be helpful and hurtful. Siestas for about 30 minutes increase productivity and is pretty good for your health. But, many Spaniards take about 2 hour breaks and lunch breaks already give workers breaks in the day. When Siestas are taking it is in the middle of the day. Since the middle of the day is the hottest it is good to take a break during that time period. But, hot temperature only affects outside workers and many jobs that Spaniards are working now are inside. Siestas also fall with the children’s school day. Since the children are given a break during the middle of the day parents can pick them up, eat with them, and then take them back. But, parents now have to take 4 trips a day to school since many can’t pay for school lunches. Also, there is about a 3 hour gap between the end of work and school.All in all, Siesta’s can be helpful and hurtful, but since Spain is becoming less agricultural siestas are seeing as much use in the workforce.

ReplyDeleteI think that their government should repeal the law because the people aren’t happy with it. Their citizens should be able to use whichever restroom that they feel the most comfortable using. Plus since the court decided not to let them sue in court because of discrimination from their employers, it will be hard for the people to have a say in their government and in some cases, in their lives.
The people are against the government the touchy issue of a law about transgenders. The government wants to change a part of a law. The people want the whole law gone. The citizens have protested against this. The current governor doesn’t see what the big deal is about getting rid of the whole law versus just changing it. The government asked to court the change where it says that they can’t sue against discriminatory actions at their place of business. Citizens haven’t been able to sue when they are being harassed at work, whether it be from their race, sexual preference or gender preference. The people are not very happy with their court system or their government. The government wants them to use the restroom specific to the gender they were born with. Transgenders don’t feel comfortable with using the restroom that they had tried to get away from with changing their genders. There have been many protests that have lead to violence because the government doesn’t feel like changing the whole law. People want to feel comfortable with being outside and in their workplace. They don’t want to be picked on or made fun of in their place of work. In order to get the most amount of quality work done, they need to be at their highest comfort level as can be so that they are relaxed and can focus on what they are supposed to get done. It would be a bit odd if you have changed to a female and are being forced to use the male’s bathroom. Feeling out of place is hard enough without all the stares you would get for the other people in there with you. It can be very stressful to feel out of place; feeling left out and being picked on can be very taxing to the mind and eventually, the body. People don’t always trust easily. It is hard for people to trust people when they have already been stabbed in the back. Their government needs to change the whole law, not just some of it because it is causing a lot of stress on the citizens and on the employer's.

How i think is that the most part of the ending for the most part festival in the middle eastern in the swerland with the french german and the pole ends and Grace for the people can come and hang out with the other people from the different close nation's right next to them.The feast also holds were the pepole can have a good time and talk and drink play games and then to learn who to talk to and to have new friends in life but then of the most of the pepole were happy.
ReplyDeleteHereVentura College is holding its first-ever Diversity in Culture Festival, a free three-day celebration that's open to the public and features dance and music performances, film, art and literature events, speakers and discussion panels.
Performances will take place all across the campus from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Gwendolyn Lewis-Huddleston, dean of arts, social science and humanities, said the event is designed to "raise public awareness, foster education and promote cross-cultural tolerance across Ventura College and throughout our multicultural community."

Greek folk dance instruction by the Los Angeles-based Gypsy Folk Ensemble.

DeleteIn the article entitled “British children’s books don’t reflect cultural diversity, Laureate says,” the Chicago Tribune’s Simon Falush explores how Laureate Blackman thinks that children’s book need to have more cultural diversity. In addition, Falush acknowledges how people are criticizing Blackman for her opinions about what children should be reading. The author identifies how Blackman has written some very dark, political books. At the same time, Blackman is encouraging students and children to write and draw book including people from other races. Finally, the topic of whether children’s books should be more culturally diverse is still an issue in England.

Laureate Blackman believes that children’s books need to talk about more truths of society. Blackman thinks that people should write about people with ethnic minority. When she was first in the business of writing books, she was told that children didn’t want to read books where other ethnicities are the main characters. Children need to be exposed to more cultures. Children’s books include many different types of animals but only include one ethnicity(Caucasian). Children will never know about the outside world. Children’s books don’t need to show other ethnicities. Children don’t like reading books with other ethnicities. There are almost zero books in England published without a white person in them. Nobody really cares about the other ethnicities in literature. It doesn’t really matter what ethnicites are in books as long as people are buying them. Laureate Blackman is fighting for more books to be published with more ethnicites included but people and publishers are hesitant. In my opinion, I think children’s books in England should include other ethnicities.

In the article entitled “Looking Another Culture in the Eye,” Erin Meyer explains how different cultures have differences that determine how people respond. To begin, Meyer tells a story of how she gave a talk to managers in Tokyo and asked if they had any questions at the end. She describes how none of them responded, so her colleague then showed her that she had to look each person in the eye to ask for questions. Meyer learned that because she was in a different culture, she had to act a little differently to interact. In addition, Meyer learned to lead other job meetings and interviews differently and to be flexible when leading a multicultural team.
ReplyDeleteBefore Erin Meyer visited Tokyo and led a meeting there, she believed that all cultures generally interacted the same way. She thought that her gestures and ways of collaborating were known worldwide. So when she led the business meeting in Tokyo, she was surprised to find that her gestures and the way she asked questions was different and misunderstood. Her eyes were opened to other ways of interaction. She now uses the skills she learned about different cultures’ gestures and different ways to communicate in her day to day life as a teacher to communicate with her students.

ReplyDeleteIn the article entitled “Two sides to proposal to expand protected U.S. shipwreck area” written by McClatchy Washington Bureau, adapted by Newsela staff, investigates what affects inspecting an old sunken ship would have. There are two sides to this argument, the personal and the moral. Personally, they want to be able to use all of the remaining ocean. On the other hand, morally, many people are disagreeing that it wouldn’t be right to examine the ship that was the burial ground for many people. The NOAA is trying their best to protect the sunken ship and a lot of other ships around that area.
Comparison
There was a shipwreck off the coast of North Carolina and that particular spot is a burial ground for sunken ships. This particular ship has brought up a lot of conraversity. Many people in the NOAA believe that the area of sunken ships should be expanded so all can be protected. They believe that the ships need to be protected and their needs to be a lot more regulation around that water so the mourning families can find some peace. On the other hand, the common people don’t want any more regulations of the water. They want to be able to go out on the water and enjoy themselves. As they see it, there is already a large portion of their ocean taken out of their control, and they want to be able to use what is left. No matter what happens with this situation, one side will not be happy.
I think that it should not be expanded. This article sounds interesting and you explained it very well.

They have reasons why they think this. The reasons are when people are different, they work harder to agree. Also it leads to more information about diversity. Opinion: i think that diversity in schools is a good thing. I dont see why people would not want to learn about other people and other cultures. DeleteThe article “Artist removes works from museum to protect danish law” described how a famous artist named Ai Weiwei removed his artwork from a museum. He did this because his country (Denmark) had just passed new laws taking away land and food from immigrants coming into the county. He thought immigrants should have somewhere to stay and something to eat. He was making a statement saying how he doesn’t support these new laws.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ai Weiwei on Denmark’s new laws. I think it is unfair to the immigrants coming into the country. The immigrants are leaving Africa and the middle east so they need somewhere to stay and the new laws are preventing this from happening.
Very true. They should be more forgiving to the people that are just trying to stay safe. Also the immigrants probably don't have much money so they need all the hand outs they can get.

This article explains that when two people are different ,interdependent and independent, tend to have conflict with one another. People who of a different personality than you tend to have differing views tend to disagree on today’s problems, and this causes tension. Once you figure out what kind of person you are you can more efficiently avoid problems with other people.
Comparison:
When two people have different views such as people with an independent view, which are people who want desperation and control, and someone who has an interdependent view ,which wants connection and cooperation, can lead people to have disputes on everyday things such as race or gender.

DeleteIn the short online article, “Bangladeshi surfer girls ride battered boards and break ancient barriers” by the Newsela staff explores a new ocean experience for young girls. Bangladesh has 160 million Muslims and tradition is very strongly followed. The Newsela staff investigate how one girl wanted to try to surf and now other girls have followed. This simple event has changed their lives. Therefore, now the girls can have a bit of freedom in their very strict lives. The controversy in this article, is the families of the girls want them to stick to culture, even if they don’t want to. Some of the girls were even harassed on the street. These girls are rebelling and now their families are starting to learn more and respect their new decisions.

The girls are suppose to strictly follow their family's culture. These girls defied that,they were frowned upon at first, but keep surfing and not doing what their cultural insisted. Good thing they did, because they encouraged other girls to surf too. In the article it states that the other members of their towns got mad and wished they would follow culture.

I think that children's books should feature more and different ethnicities because it can expose the children to different parts of the world. While many books in England include only one ethnicity which is Caucasian, I think that children need to learn about other cultures and ethnicities in the world and books are a great way to do this.

ReplyDeleteThe Wheaton world tour is an annual event to celebrate diversity in the community. Diversity is celebrated through authentic music. People who attended the festival say that the festival is great for the kids and that it is a great way to be exposed to other cultures. About 1,750 people showed up to the festival and there is without a doubt another festival to be held next year.
Despite the excitement and positive reviews of the festival, some naysayers believe that the festival is bad for the community. Protesters can be seen saying that the festival is responsible for the destruction of the communities original culture. This is a huge point of controversy within Chicago’s community.

In the article “US Women Won Soccer’s World Cup; They Want to be Paid as Much as Men” written by Newsela Staff they explain how the US women's soccer team wants to equal the rules for the game of soccer. They tell us everything that is wrong with the sport that men and woman play and shared how they would like it fixed. They shared that the pay is unequal even when the women’s team has clearly made double the accomplishments as the men's team.The women also get stuck with the artificial grass which is dangerous and has causes women to cycle their games. Meanwhile the men's team gets the fresh green grass which is perfect for soccer. Clearly there are problems with men’s and women’s soccer that need to be solved.

The women’s team has won multiple worlds championship and are nationally popular which i think given them the right to have access to the best they can get.

ReplyDeleteIn the article “Nifty Space Idea: Blow up room” they talk about adding on an extra room on a space shuttle. International space station is running out of room. Scientists have found a way to create more room for the space shuttle. The room is really small, it's like the size of a small bedroom. The room helps humans take more trips to space, it also can be used to make bigger buildings on other planets. The room will travel to space on a rocket Friday afternoon. It will be in space for 2 years.

ReplyDeleteIn the article "Principal puts school election on hold and gets a lesson in democracy" they talk about the elections in their school. The schools population consisted of over half Latino and Mexican, about 9% African American, the rest were white. The principle delayed the final results because he said the people that had the most votes didn't represent the diversity in the school. The principle said "African-Americans and Latinos were underrepresented among the students who became president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and representatives for the three grades." Most parents stand behind the principle saying that it is good to have diversity among the school government. The Principle wanted to ensure that all groups throughout the school would have a representative.

The upside of cultural diversity is that people will work harder together and that hopefully we as a society can finally learn to live together rather than just trying to find everything that could possibly have a racist side to it. ReplyDeleteIn the article entitled “Ban the Siesta? Spanish government considers ending national tradition” by Stephen Burgen explores how the U.S.A is banning Siestas. First, Burgen explains how Spainards are getting their 2 hour break banned called a siesta even though many of them don’t make use of it in the U.S. The author, acknowledges how in Spain they have a work day split in 2 parts, from 8 to 2 and from 4:30 to 8. Finally, he shows that because they split they day parents need to make 4 trips to pick up their kids and need childcare because there is a 3 hour gap between the work and school end time. All in all, Burgen explored how Spainards take a siesta but don’t need it anymore becuase they are working in offices instead of out in the fields and they uesd it to avoid they hottest part of the day.
Sides: The Spanish government has started to outlaw Siestas, a Spanish tradition that involves taking a break from work in the middle of the day. Siestas for a short period of time can be helpful and hurtful. Siestas for about 30 minutes increase productivity and is pretty good for your health. But, many Spaniards take about 2 hour breaks and lunch breaks already give workers breaks in the day. When Siestas are taking it is in the middle of the day. Since the middle of the day is the hottest it is good to take a break during that time period. But, hot temperature only affects outside workers and many jobs that Spaniards are working now are inside. Siestas also fall with the children’s school day. Since the children are given a break during the middle of the day parents can pick them up, eat with them, and then take them back. But, parents now have to take 4 trips a day to school since many can’t pay for school lunches. Also, there is about a 3 hour gap between the end of work and school.All in all, Siesta’s can be helpful and hurtful, but since Spain is becoming less agricultural siestas are seeing as much use in the workforce.
