In the article entitled ‘Parents “furious” that school puts elementary kids in isolation rooms,” the Newsela staff explores how parents strongly disapprove of their kids being held in isolation rooms. In addition, Newsela acknowledges how the parents feel. The author identifies all the different opinions. Some say yes to the rooms and some say no. At the same time, they illustrate that the schools must follow rules for the rooms. Finally, Newsela explained that the parents are bringing their opinions to the next Mill Creek board meeting. Most parents in Mill Creek think that the isolation rooms are a bad idea. I also think that the rooms are not good for the children. The rooms are supposed to be a safe place for the children to calm down, but the rooms are said to have a long-term negative impact on a person’s wellness. It is not good to keep children locked in rooms for a long period of time. The district teachers said that the room was used rarely but now studies show that the rooms were being used my times a day everyday. However, others may think that giving Rousey a job for the police is a bad idea because she might not be up to the police’s standards. For instance, many of the police dogs now are very strong, and maybe Rousey isn’t cut out for it. Another reason this article might not be valid is because most police dogs are raised from puppies how to be a police dog, and she did not receive as much training. Lastly, others might think that she isn’t cut out to be a police dog because she hasn’t been tested very much, she has only had a little training, and although she has proved herself, other police dogs get more tests.
I learned about a stray dog that got a second chance through hard work and training. I agree that the right thing to do was give the dog a second chance because it is not the dogs fault that he was abandoned and hurt. American Teens Are Still Not Getting Enough Exercise
In my opinion, teenagers need to work out more and get more physical activity daily. Some people may disagree and say that physical activity isn’t necessarily a good idea because it takes away from learning time. That isn’t true because it is scientifically proven that when teens don’t move and do something active everyday, part of their brain doesn’t work as well as it could to retain information. Teens need more exercise at school and over all.

To begin Scientific American discusses the idea that this new possible planet is as much as 10 times larger than Earth. The writer at the same time explains that this planet is possible to see with a telescope, but is very dim. Finally Scientific America identifies the fact that there are weird objects in orbit around the planet which gave clue to its existence.
Opinion: I thought this article was interesting and good because it made me curious and wonder about what else was out there. However I can see why someone would think this was a bad article because it didn’t go into much depth on what this planet’s characteristic were. This was good because it made me think what else is out there because this new planet was right by us the whole time. I also thought that the size was very interesting because you would have thought that something that massive would have been discovered. I also liked how they explained its position because that really helped me visualize where it is.

Next, they illustrated that people want more punishment for the people who hurt referees and not just a banning for games in their future. Lastly, the Newsela staff acknowledges that while being a referee is stressful and very hard it is a good service to the kids who want to play the game.
In my opinion I do believe that more referees are quitting because of the people who just don’t appreciate what the refs are doing and are “flaming” them for their mistakes and that these people who are attacking referees should be punished. On the other hand, I am a soccer player and I have had “bad” referees before in the amount of games I’ve played but I have never physically hurt them and barely ever yell right at their face. In the article, two football officials died from beatings due to football players getting angry at their calls. Also, in my personal experience my sister is a referee and she always comes home and tells us how bad and stupid the players, staff, and spectators and how people always yell at her and is generally a bad experience. Lastly, in the article 20 states want to beef up the punishment for people who attack referees which shows that this a real thing and isn’t just referees complaining too much but a serious issue.

The author tells us about the LA Rams coming and trying to find houses for them. Now thry are finding more house. Finally it explores the shortage that the Ram’s are having of finding houses.
I thought this was a good article. It was also very interesting. However, it did not go into much depth. I think a house shortage is intersting problem to have. They will just have to build more houses quick.

In my opinion i thought this article was very interesting seeing how people thought mental disabilities and belief in different religions meant they are a witch. the ways they killed the witches goes all the way back to middle eastern countries on how they drop rock on the chest to crush the victims and they also used the traditional way of hung from the gallows. i was kinda surprised about the kill count i thought it would be much higher because in that time to have a different religion. without a doubt we have changed in a society much better than being scared and killing things we don't understand. tho in our country there is still belief in witchcraft and fear of it in southern states.

My view was originally that space travel was inevitable and could be made possible. This article opened up my mind to how impossible the challenges of space travel. Opnion: I personally believe that assuming a country of such low international standards, and one that heavily lacks of the knowledge and money to construct such a device as a Hydrogen bomb is highly preposterous. It’s ridiculous to think that North Korea, a country rocked by a revolution, a war with America, and with multiple UN Sanctions placed on it could fund a project as large as this. Although there will be naysayers out there, here are two simple reasons why it’s impossible for this to be true. 1. Locals Say Blast was “Too Small” The people of south korea (the liberated capitalist side of Korea) are used to daily and frequent failed North Korean Nuclear tests, and the earthquakes that follow (Due to underground testing. Literally.). But after this bang, many reported in that the shaking was “Too Small” and couldn’t possibly a H-Bomb. 2. These sanctions financially restrict programs like Nuclear development and space programs (both of which lost government funding in the USA). One thing I learned was that there are laws for betting and gambling online. One thing that I agree with is that you should be able to gamble online because don't loose much money and you most of the time get it back. Opinion: Without a doubt two NFL teams will be moving to LA. I believe that the Rams and Chargers leaving their town to LA is good for the teams, However; the Rams and the Chargers fans are not gonna like that their favorite team is leaving them. That isn’t true because it is scientifically proven that when teens don’t move and do something active everyday, part of their brain doesn’t work as well as it could to retain information. Teens need more exercise at school and over all.

First of all, the Newsela Staff demonstrates that schools need to give their students more time to exercise. The author advises teens to exercise on their own time. I thought this article was interesting and good because it made me curious and wonder about what else was out there. However I can see why someone would think this was a bad article because it didn’t go into much depth on what this planet’s characteristic were. This was good because it made me think what else is out there because this new planet was right by us the whole time. I also thought that the size was very interesting because you would have thought that something that massive would have been discovered. Opinion:
In my opinion, we should continue advancing our technology with gene editing, but not use it for eugenics. Some people think it would be a good idea to use it to eventually choose our children’s traits to make the smarter, stronger, or better looking. However, it raises the ethical issue of changing and creating the perfect baby. I think we should use this only for relieving suffering, for curing diseases, and for helpful medical purposes. In the article “As referees face more hostility, sports programs see a shortage, the Newsela staff presents how referees are getting both physically and verbally abused. First, the staff discusses how refs are getting beat up on because they players,coaches, and spectators don’t like their calls. The authors then explain how two football refs died from physical abuse from players that were mad at them. Next, they illustrated that people want more punishment for the people who hurt referees and not just a banning for games in their future. Lastly, the Newsela staff acknowledges that while being a referee is stressful and very hard it is a good service to the kids who want to play the game.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I do believe that more referees are quitting because of the people who just don’t appreciate what the refs are doing and are “flaming” them for their mistakes and that these people who are attacking referees should be punished. On the other hand, I am a soccer player and I have had “bad” referees before in the amount of games I’ve played but I have never physically hurt them and barely ever yell right at their face. In the article, two football officials died from beatings due to football players getting angry at their calls. Also, in my personal experience my sister is a referee and she always comes home and tells us how bad and stupid the players, staff, and spectators and how people always yell at her and is generally a bad experience. Lastly, in the article 20 states want to beef up the punishment for people who attack referees which shows that this a real thing and isn’t just referees complaining too much but a serious issue.

To begin, Beacon explains the poor behavior of students getting suspended from schools and more crime is in the neighborhoods.The journalist demonstrates how basketball is helping the students in school and their outside behavior. In addition, he defines that the students have to improve toward an academic goal their teacher has set for them to get to play on saturday for the games. Finally, Beacon compares that the love the students have on the court disciplines them and improves them to become respectful hard working students.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this article is very good. This current event changed my view and i’m sure many other reader’s views. My view was originally that space travel was inevitable and could be made possible. This article opened up my mind to how impossible the challenges of space travel. The space ark would be nearly impossible to create that would be acceptable for space travel. This article changed my whole perspective on space travel and maybe humans weren’t meant to live on a planet other than Earth.
Summary of Article
In the report “Traveling to the stars might not be mankind’s destiny after all” by the Newsela staff tells the truth about human destiny and explores the difficulties of space travel. The Newsela staff investigates the real struggle of how it is merely impossible. The journalist writers talk about the size of arks and how it affects travel. Personally I think that it is unfair but also LA has not had a team in about 30 years. LA need to have a team because I think they are the best cities in California. So I think it could go either way for this.
I learned that the Rams are moving back to where they originally were. I think it is unfair to Missouri because California already has 3 teams(49ers, Raiders, and the Chargers) so they don't need another team. Also, LA is only a hour away from San Diego so it would be almost the same area, and Missouri is losing their only team.

Opnion:
I personally believe that assuming a country of such low international standards, and one that heavily lacks of the knowledge and money to construct such a device as a Hydrogen bomb is highly preposterous. It’s ridiculous to think that North Korea, a country rocked by a revolution, a war with America, and with multiple UN Sanctions placed on it could fund a project as large as this. Although there will be naysayers out there, here are two simple reasons why it’s impossible for this to be true.
1. Locals Say Blast was “Too Small”
The people of south korea (the liberated capitalist side of Korea) are used to daily and frequent failed North Korean Nuclear tests, and the earthquakes that follow (Due to underground testing. Literally.). But after this bang, many reported in that the shaking was “Too Small” and couldn’t possibly a H-Bomb.
2. Again with the Sanctions
Sanctions are governmentally placed punishments on nations (normally by the UN) for crimes or actions that are generally frowned upon by the rest of the world. These sanctions financially restrict programs like Nuclear development and space programs (both of which lost government funding in the USA). North Korea, Poor to start with and spending every cent on nukes, wouldn’t realistically be able to gain access to materials to make a H-Bomb without external funding.
With so many restrictions, and with primary sources saying otherwise, it seems as only common sense to think that North Korea’s tests wouldn’t be factual.

I think that fantasy sport laws should not be a thing and that online sport gambling is completely okay. I understand how people disagree saying it can be addictive and you will just lose your money. But One reason I think that fantasy sport gambling is okay is because you don’t spend much money on it, you spend 5-20 dollars at most for the casual game. My second reason is that losing 5-20 dollars isn’t that bad for the amount of fun you’ll have playing it. Finally if you win it pays back for most of your games.

One thing I learned was that there are laws for betting and gambling online. One thing that I agree with is that you should be able to gamble online because don't loose much money and you most of the time get it back. One thing that I think that you could add is that maybe you should give an example of one of the laws.

They have so much money that this is not a problem for them. Other people that see the problem and want to help will be very happy to see that a high school girl had the dream and drive to get this problem solved.
Summary: In the article “San Francisco tackles homeless problem at site of Super Bowl fest”, The Bloomberg News says how San Francisco is preparing the city for the upcoming super bowl. They talk about how many companies are trying to get homeless people off the streets and give them a place to stay for the weekend. The workers are using 5 million dollars to help those people and give them a place to stay. There will be close to 1 million people coming to the city for the big event so the workers of the city are trying really hard to clean up the city when everyone comes into town. There is lots of disputes of whether the city should be funding this or not. Many say how there are better ways to spend 5 million dollars.

I go to the city very often and see way too many people living in cardboard boxes and begging for money. Especially with the super bowl right around the corner, San Francisco will want to make a good impression when those 1 million people arrive for the big game. Yes there are other ways to spend 5 million dollars, however, the streets of SF are in need of help and it will benefit the city in a positive way.
